Gurugram, Jul 7: A shocking case of child trafficking was thwarted as Gurugram Police rescued a six-year-old boy kidnapped from Sector 40 and arrested a mother-son duo from Agra, who were allegedly planning to sell the child to a wealthy childless couple, officials said on Sunday.

The incident came to light after the child's father lodged a missing complaint on June 23 at the Sector 40 police station. Acting swiftly, a team from the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, led by ASI Kuldeep Singh, launched a detailed probe.

Following multiple leads, police arrested the prime accused Shivam, a resident of Madhav Vihar Colony, Agra, on July 2, and safely rescued the kidnapped boy from his possession.

During questioning, Shivam confessed to luring the child with a toffee before abducting him and taking him to his mother's house in Agra. His mother, identified as Manoj, was also arrested on Saturday, police said.

"The accused duo were actively looking for childless couples who could pay a handsome amount in exchange for the child," a Gurugram Police spokesperson stated.

Shivam has been remanded to four-day police custody by a city court. Meanwhile, both the child and his family are reportedly safe, and further investigation is underway to trace any other possible links in the child trafficking network.
