Sullia, July 9: A massive fire broke out early on Tuesday at the solid waste management unit of the Aranthodu Grama Panchayat, completely gutting the facility and causing extensive damage to the building and its contents.

The blaze is suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit, though official confirmation is awaited.

Sources at the site reported that the unit was completely filled with waste materials at the time of the incident, which helped the fire spread rapidly. Within minutes, flames had engulfed the structure, destroying not only the accumulated waste but also causing severe structural damage to the facility.

While no injuries or casualties have been reported, the financial loss is expected to be significant. Fire and emergency services rushed to the scene and began intensive firefighting operations to bring the situation under control.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the exact cause of the fire and will soon conduct a comprehensive damage assessment. The incident has sparked concern among residents about safety protocols and infrastructure preparedness in public waste management units.
