Ludhiana, Jul 11: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Ludhiana city police on Wednesday cracked a gruesome murder case involving the daylight dumping of a woman’s body near Aarti Chowk. Within four hours of the crime being reported, police arrested three individuals, including the victim's in-laws.
The deceased has been identified as Reshma (25), a migrant woman whose body was found stuffed in a sack and dumped on a road divider under the pretext of disposing rotten mangoes. The accused, Kishan and Dulari, Reshma’s father-in-law and mother-in-law from Malha, Lucknow (UP), along with Ajai Kumar, a native of Gadia village in UP, have been taken into custody.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, while addressing the media, commended the team led by DCP Rupinder Singh, ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, ACP Guriqbal Singh, and SI Amarjit Singh, for solving the case swiftly based on circumstantial evidence and witness statements.
Initial investigations suggest that the woman may have been murdered over suspected issues concerning her character, while her husband Ramesh Kumar remains in Uttar Pradesh. The accused family had been residing as guests in the house of a local resident, Manoj Kumar, for the past two weeks.
Manoj stated that he had seen the sack outside his door on Wednesday morning and assumed the family was relocating. It was only after a video clip of the body being dumped surfaced on social media that he suspected foul play and contacted the police.
Ajai, who accompanied Kishan on the motorcycle during the disposal, claimed he was unaware of the crime and believed the sack contained rotten mangoes.
While police are still probing the full sequence of events and verifying the legitimacy of Reshma’s marriage to the couple’s son, officials suspect a conspiracy to eliminate her.
ACP Guriqbal Singh affirmed that sufficient evidence has been gathered, though detailed disclosures are being withheld to avoid jeopardising the ongoing investigation. The police credited the prompt arrests to the diligent and well-coordinated action of the special investigation team.
