Brahmavar: Illegal liquor sale busted near Kunjal junction; one arrested

Brahmavar, Jul 11: Acting on a tip-off about the illegal sale of liquor in a public place, PSI Ashok Malabagi of the Brahmavar Police Station conducted a raid near the tourist tempo stand at Kunjal Junction in Varamballi village and arrested one person.

The accused, identified as Umesh Poojary (49), a resident of Handadi village, was found selling liquor illegally from a scooter bearing registration number KA-19-X-9055, without a valid licence. Investigations revealed that he had procured the liquor from a wine store in Brahmavar and was selling it at inflated prices.

Police seized an old cloth bag containing 30 tetra packs of liquor, including various brands such as Prestige Fine Whisky, Haywards Cheers, Original Choice, Mysore Lancer Deluxe, Bagpiper Deluxe, and Old Grain, with an estimated value of Rs 1,700. They also recovered Rs 280 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from the sale, and the scooter used for transportation.

A case has been registered at the Brahmavar Police Station.
