Patna, Jul 12: Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan received a death threat on social media, his party spokesperson Rajesh Bhatt revealed on Friday, sparking serious security concerns ahead of the Bihar assembly elections.
According to a written complaint submitted by Bhatt at the Cyber Police Station in Patna, the threat was issued by an Instagram user with the handle ‘Tiger Meraj Idisi’. Bhatt alleged that the threat stemmed from Paswan’s growing popularity, describing the act as “criminal in intent and reflective of unlawful activities.”

“I request you to take immediate cognizance of the seriousness of this matter and initiate prompt action. Kindly arrest the suspect without delay and ensure the strictest punishment,” the complaint read.

Cyber DCP Nitish Chandra Dharia confirmed the development, stating, “On the night of July 11, at around 9 pm, Union Minister Chirag Paswan received a death threat via social media. A case has been registered at Patna Cyber Police Station, and legal action is underway.”

The incident comes just days after Paswan announced his candidacy for the upcoming Bihar elections while addressing a rally in Saran. “From this sacred land, I declare that I will contest the election for the people of Bihar – for my brothers, mothers, and sisters – to build a progressive state,” he had said.

Paswan’s party, LJP (Ram Vilas), is part of the NDA alliance along with JD(U) and BJP. Though expected to continue the alliance in the forthcoming elections, Paswan has yet to officially confirm his party’s position.

The Bihar assembly elections are likely to be held in October or November this year, though the Election Commission has not yet announced the official dates.
