Kolkata, Jul 12: In a shocking incident at the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C), a woman student was allegedly raped by another student inside the boys' hostel of the prestigious institution, police said on Saturday.

According to police sources, the accused was arrested based on an FIR filed by the woman at the Haridevpur Police Station. The incident reportedly took place on Friday, when the woman was called to the hostel under the pretext of a counselling session.

In her statement, the woman alleged that she was offered a drink laced with drugs, after which she lost consciousness. Upon regaining consciousness, she realised she had been sexually assaulted. She further claimed that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

Police officials confirmed that the accused student was initially detained on Friday night before being formally arrested. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The disturbing case comes just weeks after a separate gangrape incident was reported inside a Kolkata law college, raising serious concerns about campus safety in the city.
