Siddipet, Jul 13: In a shocking crime allegedly inspired by the popular thriller Drishyam, a man in Telangana’s Siddipet district has been arrested for murdering his 60-year-old mother-in-law to claim Rs 60 lac in insurance money.
The accused, identified as Venkatesh, reportedly orchestrated the chilling murder of Ramavva, his mother-in-law, in Peddamasanpalli village. Police said Venkatesh had recently taken out multiple insurance policies in her name through the post office and SBI, with an eye on hefty payouts.

According to investigators, the accused lured Ramavva to the fields under the pretext of work. Later that night, he sent her home alone on a deserted road where his accomplice—allegedly promised half the insurance sum—struck her down with a vehicle. Venkatesh then tried to pass off the death as a tragic road accident.
However, suspicions were raised, and a detailed probe followed. CCTV footage from nearby areas played a key role in unraveling the truth. Discrepancies in Venkatesh’s account soon emerged, and during interrogation, he confessed to the murder.
Police drew parallels between the crime and the plot of Drishyam, noting the methodical planning and attempted cover-up aimed at misleading law enforcement.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with officials condemning the cold-blooded act committed for financial gain.
