Beltangady, Jul 14: The Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra (CKSK), supported by the Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA), organized the disbursement of the Suvidya 2025 interest-free educational loan at Vimukti, Beltangady on Sunday, July 13. The loan aims to support the higher education needs of economically disadvantaged youths in the Diocese of Mangalore.
A total of 33 students have applied for the Suvidya 2025 scheme. The programme commenced with a prayer. On the dais, Prakash Godwin Pinto, the president of KCWA, Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza, vicar provincial, Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, Fr Deepak Fernandes, director, Dayalbagh Ashram. Naveen Mascarenhas, former president, KCWA, Reena Rego, secretary, KCWA, Prashanth Ferrao, committee member, KCWA, Fr Vinod Mascarenhas director of CKSK-Vimukti, and Fr Rohan Lobo, assistant director of CKSK-Vimukti, were present.
Laveena, the programme coordinator, gave a bird's-eye view of Suvidya 2018–2025. The programme was inaugurated symbolically by placing each year's success on the display board. The president of KCWA explained the journey of KCWA in his address and gratefully remembered all the former presidents, office bearers and donors. He was honoured by CKSK for the contribution made by KCWA towards the education of rural poor youths.
Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza was honoured for being elected as vicar provincial of Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka. In his address, he commended CKSK unit, Laila for undertaking various humane activities to reach out vulnerable segments of the society. This CKSK unit at Laila, whatever it discusses and dreams, makes them a reality, he added.
The Suvidya applicants were handed over the cheques symbolically. A total of Rs 15,81,000 was disbursed this year for 33 applicants.
Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, director, CKSK expressed gratitude to KCWA for their dedicated service in assisting youths in pursuing higher education within the Diocese of Mangalore. He also thanked the past applicants for repaying the dues on time and making way for the new applicants to receive this facility and at the same time he asked the new applicants to continue the good spirit of the Suvidya interest free loan. Further, in his speech, he asked the youths to guard themselves against the social evils such as falling to the drugs and bad company.
To mark this beautiful event, a memento was handed over to KCWA president by the director of CKSK.
