Botad, Jul 14: A tragic mishap unfolded near Godhawata village in Gujarat's Botad district as a car carrying seven passengers was swept away by floodwaters while crossing an overflowing causeway around midnight on Sunday.

The vehicle, en route from Bochasan to Salangpur, was overpowered by a strong current while navigating the submerged passage, Barwala Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sanjay Chaudhari confirmed.

Rescue efforts, first initiated by local residents and the Botad fire team, managed to save four occupants who swam to safety. However, the bodies of two passengers—identified as Krishnakant Pandya (60) and Prabuddha Kachhiya (9)—were recovered and sent for postmortem.

One person remains unaccounted for. A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has joined the operation to trace the missing individual, officials said.
