Mangalore: Now, Efforts on to Extend Another Train to Kerala!

Mangalore: Now, Efforts on to Extend Another Train to Kerala!

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jan 31: As is their wont, people’s representatives from Kerala have set into motion another attempt to get an additional train extended to their territory. Even as the Kannadigas in Mumbai and Mangalore continue to urge the government to extend Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus – Mangalore Junction train to Mangalore Central station to help the people, leaders from Kerala have demanded the extension of this train to Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram. If the past records are of any indication, their request may well be granted.

A 16-member delegation comprising ten Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members from Kerala and MLAs, recently met union railway minister, Dinesh Dwivedi, and submitted a memorandum to him containing the above demand. The nomenclature of the train has already been modified into Mumabai Express from Mangalore Junction Express. It is being analyzed, and going by the previous successful record of parliamentarians and beaurocracy from Kerala, who are perceived to be having tremendous clout, that this demand will be met soon.

The two problems the passengers from the coastal districts of Karnataka will face if the train is extended are that the timings of the train will undergo a change, and it will be rendered almost impossible to get reservations for the people of Karnataka coast on this train. The present timings of the train are convenient for the people of Mangalore, and if it is extended, the train will most likely reach the city at around midnight.

A number of Kannadiga organizations based in Mumbai have already appealed to the railway minister against the move. The railway passengers are angry that the peoples’ representatives from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have not been taking any interest to safeguard interests of their own people.

The railway users from the region insist that the unity exhibited by peoples’ representatives belonging to different political parties from Kerala need to be emulated by their counterparts in the coastal districts of Karnataka, who have among them, some influential representatives and ministers. They hope that these people will not wake up only when it is too late to act.

Well said Sooraj, Kerala is fast developing state. But in Karnataka in fighting is going on within govt and within the public. We are going back to 18th century. We need bullock carts Instead of trains. Kateel n Nalin Kumar are uneducated MP's no guts to talk at parliament. Busy in corruption no time to think abt public.

    Dear All Kannadiga's,
Dont be so disheartened..Let railways earn some revnues by extending trains to Kerala. This move will benefit not only Keralites for all Indians who wants to travel to kerala for holidays. For your information, most of trains to kerala is booked by the north indians. Locals get less than 50%. Lets not do anything aganst this move and visit Kerala once to enjoy the affordable vacations. cheers !

I think our MP Mr Kateel might be busy in saving Mr Bhat for his brainless speech or may be thinking of avoiding going to Christian hospitals etc. Mr Kattel doesnt open his mouth in Delhi becoz he doesnt know either English or Hindi. He knows only Tulu.I think by the time our Mangalore people busy in communal pullings the train will be pulled to Kerala.

Nobody has realized the complete gravity of the situation the way Zulfik has rightly put forward. In term of development, Kerala has far exceeded the growth rate than Karnataka. Arise Karnataka..get all your people together, set aside all politics and caste/divide and rule game and focus on welfare of the state and build nation..let us have many trains and also allow more trains to Kerala as well..Assimilate and Grow..

Sleepy Muniyappa / Oscar. Wake up. Please get us the overbridge at Bajal (Padil) near the Mangalore Junction station and the proposed flyover from Nandigudda cemetry road to Old kent road (near Dr.Adappa's Hospital). Our BJP MP Mr.Kateel is useless too. He has so far never opened his mouth in Parliament and has the worst attendance. He has a criminal record against him too.The RSS,Bajrang Dal,Rama Sene etc need him as their leader.Yet he has been elected. Waste of tax payers money !!

Herald D'Souza well said, Sandesh Shetty's chip is still Pantium 2 could not got ur point. Despite best efforts of Muniyappa for the past 3yrs, this time Kerala will take Lions share as there is congress govt. When there is congres at centre need congres at state too. Huge grants from central has been misused by state govt. Each district got above 500 crores from central govt but not even 25% is utilized. State govt is busy in fighting for chair n MP Nalin Kumar is useless spineless.

On any given day there are easily over 20-30 buses plying to Mlore from Bombay or Bangalore... come night ... that number simply shoots up 10 to 20 fold.... there is a huge politician cum bus operator mafia thriving in Karnataka, big names in the Karnataka political circles have huge business interests in bus transport...(personally have travelled the length and breadth of the country on work)... Bihar and WB top the train connectivity list (reasons well known) but the clear winner in bus transport is Karnataka that too MLR_BOM_BLR routes top the list... from volvos to multi-axle mercedes buses you have a whole choice of top of the line buses plying on these routes, a volvo easily costs approx 85-90 lakhs on road.. with the merc crossing a whopping 1.1-1.22 crores....now that mutliplied by 300 buses... do the math...this is only as far as capex is concerned..., where will the ROI come from? obviously... by crippling other long distance public transport options! namely the train...

We are facing difficulties with regards to Mangalore Junction Rly Stn and our MP Nalin Kumar should look into this.
    1. There should be a big Sign Board in all 3 languages at NH-48 Bye-Pass to the Rly Stn.
    2. The approach road from NH-48 till the Rly Stn should be widened and street lights should be installed.
    3. The Car-Parking region outside the Rly Stn should have a boundary and the floor should be interlocked.
    4. The ticketing region of the Rly Stn should be made bigger with more leg-space, Vitrified-Tiled Flooring, Benches for Senior Citizens, Refreshment Stall and better lighting & sound system.
    5. The authority should rebuild the mosquito infected cage-like Rest Room cum stinking attached Toilets into a bigger one.
    6. There should be paid Bathrooms & Sleeping facilities for those passengers staying away from the Rly Stn or the one wish to taking different train.
What about the construction of new International Standard M’lore Central Rly Stn near Fisheries College property close to HN-66 that the Rly Minister had promised? We want action!

Karnataka has become just a transit point for Kerala. For its People and their growth. Our so called powerfull minister in center neither cares for thier states nor for its people. And our elected karnataka government has been mute specators. They pass airstrip just adjusect to mangalore plan to bring big International airport in Kannur although our ministers are still stuggling for the recognition for Internayional Airport for the existing one. Most of the Train are only passing through our state with no final distination of it except Bangalore. With the size of only our three Districts (uttar Daksin Kannada and Udupi) Kerala state has gone very far in their infrastructure. And our state being called High tech hub is far behind.Coz our Policticial biased approach to thier people is suufring to the normal citizen.
