Mangaluru, July 15: In a major development in the Mohammed Ashraf murder case, the High Court has dismissed the bail pleas of nine accused, underscoring the gravity of the offence and the ongoing investigation.
The case stems from a brutal mob assault that took place on April 27, around 3 pm, behind the Bhatra Kallurti Daivasthana in Kudupu, Mangaluru. A cricket match was underway at the location when a violent altercation erupted.
According to police reports, a group of individuals allegedly attacked Mohammed Sharif with bare hands, stomped on his body, and beat him with sticks. The group assault resulted in the death of Mohammed Ashraf on the spot, prompting public outrage.
Following the incident, the Mangaluru Rural police station registered a case under Crime No. 37/2025 invoking Sections 189(2), 191(1)(3), 115(2), 103(2), 240, and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being treated with high priority.
A total of 21 people have been arrested so far in connection with the case. Of them, the following nine accused had approached the High Court seeking bail:

The bail applications came up for hearing on July 15. Representing the government, a Special Public Prosecutor strongly opposed the pleas, citing the seriousness of the crime and the stage of investigation.
After hearing the arguments, the High Court rejected all nine bail petitions, a move that has been welcomed by the victim’s family and community members.
Police officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will follow based on evidence gathered during the probe.
