Mangaluru, July 15: St Agnes PU College honoured Rituparna K S, a 20-year-old engineering student and alumna, for securing a lucrative position with global aerospace and defence leader Rolls-Royce, offering her an annual package of Rs 72.3 lac.
Rituparna completed her schooling from LKG to PUC at St Agnes Institutions.
Expressing her gratitude, she said, “God does not give you a curse or boon, but provides opportunities—it’s up to us how we utilise them. I’m grateful to St Agnes for teaching me discipline and time management.”
Recalling her journey, Rituparna shared, “Since childhood, I wanted to become a doctor. While studying at St Agnes, I prepared for NEET but couldn’t clear it, which left me heartbroken. Later, I opted for engineering in robotics and automation without much excitement or confidence.”
Despite a difficult start, she thrived. In her first year, she invented a harvesting and spraying device, winning a gold medal at an international innovation conference in Goa with participants from over 15 countries. She also designed a mobile app to tackle waste management issues for Mangaluru City Corporation — a project praised by then Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan.
“I applied to Mercedes, Ferrari, and Rolls-Royce. Three months after applying, I received an email from Rolls-Royce. I diligently completed every task assigned, often working from midnight to 6 am. My persistence paid off, and they offered me a pre-placement offer,” Rituparna said.
She has since been promoted and offered a package of Rs 72.3 lac annually. She will join the company after finishing her seventh semester in Texas, USA.
“Be dedicated, give 200%, work hard, and seek self-satisfaction. Stay rooted to your country, family, institution, and teachers. Stay humble,” she advised. “In the future, I hope to launch a startup in Mangaluru to create jobs for skilled youth.”
Sr Norine D’Souza, principal of St Agnes PU College, praised Rituparna, saying, “She is a bright and determined alumna who has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a position at Rolls-Royce. Her success reflects the values, determination, and pursuit of excellence we nurture at St Agnes. She is a shining example of what vision and hard work can accomplish and an inspiration to all.”
Rituparna’s father, Suresh, expressed his appreciation: “I am always grateful to St Agnes. Whatever Rituparna has achieved is because of the foundation laid here. With hard work, effort, and skill development, success will follow.”
The event was welcomed by Venetia, with Shailaja compering and delivering the vote of thanks.
Also present were Sr Maria Roopa, superior and joint secretary of St Agnes Institutions, vice principal Janet Sequeira, dean of Science Supriya, and Rituparna’s mother, Geetha Suresh.
