Sikar, Jul 17: In a heartbreaking incident, a nine-year-old girl from Sikar district of Rajasthan collapsed suddenly during school hours and later passed away, with doctors suspecting cardiac arrest as the cause.

The incident took place on Tuesday at Adarsh Vidya Mandir School in Danta town. The victim, Prachi Kumawat, a Class 4 student, had just sat down to eat her lunch during the break when she suddenly fainted. Alarmed teachers immediately rushed her to the nearby Community Health Centre in Danta.

“She had no pulse, no blood pressure, and was gasping for breath. We gave her CPR, oxygen, injections, and IV fluids, but her condition was critical,” said Dr Subhash Verma, who attended to the child. “She showed signs of cardiac arrest. We stabilized her briefly and referred her to the district hospital in Sikar via ambulance.”

However, despite efforts by doctors at both facilities, Prachi could not be saved.

According to school principal Nand Kishore Tiwari, Prachi had been absent for the past two to three days due to a mild cold but appeared completely fine when she returned on Monday. She even participated in morning prayers and the school assembly.

Dr RK Jangid, the senior doctor at the CHC, confirmed that they tried to revive the child for over 90 minutes. “Though she did not have a pulse initially, she briefly responded to emergency treatment. She may have had an undiagnosed congenital heart condition that triggered a cardiac event.”

In a poignant final memory, a video recorded in school hours earlier showed a cheerful Prachi introducing herself and her class details before walking away with a smile.

The family, overwhelmed with grief, opted not to conduct a post-mortem and took her home for the last rites.

Doctors have called for greater awareness of undiagnosed heart conditions in children, emphasizing the importance of timely CPR and early screening for congenital issues.
