Kasargod, July 17: A family of four had a narrow escape after a landslide triggered by heavy overnight rain partially destroyed their house near Chandragiri, raising fresh concerns over ignored safety warnings.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night at Nadakkal, where a hillock behind the residence of Mitesh, a local resident, collapsed under the pressure of continuous rainfall.

A massive boulder and a large amount of mud crashed into one side of the house, causing extensive damage to a room, while the rest of the structure also sustained partial damage.

Thanks to their alertness, all four occupants of the house managed to rush outside on hearing the noise, escaping unhurt.

Mitesh revealed that the possibility of such a landslide had been raised with authorities well in advance. “We had submitted a request to the revenue department two years ago, warning them about the unstable hillside and the potential danger,” he said.

“Unfortunately, no action was taken,” he added, expressing frustration over the authorities’ inaction.
