Baghpat, Jul 18: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 28-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, leaving behind a chilling note written on her body accusing her husband and in-laws of persistent dowry harassment.
The woman, identified as Manisha, consumed poison at her maternal home on Tuesday night. In a disturbing act, she inscribed her suicide note using a pen on her arms, legs, and stomach, stating, “Kundan and his family are responsible for my death.”

A video recorded by Manisha before her death, now in police possession, shows her tearfully narrating the alleged torment she faced at the hands of her husband Kundan, his parents, and his brother. She claimed they continually demanded a car and large sums of money, despite her family already spending Rs 20 lac on the wedding and gifting a Bullet motorcycle as dowry.
Manisha further alleged physical abuse and said she was forced to undergo an abortion. She also accused her in-laws of attempting to kill her by electrocution after she refused to meet their dowry demands.
According to officials, Manisha married Kundan, a Noida resident, in 2023. Within months of marriage, the harassment began. In July 2024, she returned to her parental home due to the escalating mental torture.
Four days prior to her death, discussions had begun regarding her divorce. However, Manisha reportedly refused to sign any papers until her in-laws returned the dowry items.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
