AAP MLA Venzy Viegas to introduce bills to protect Goa’s creeks & farmlands

Panaji, Jul 18: In a bid to address Goa's deepening environmental and agrarian crises, AAP Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas will introduce two private member bills during the upcoming Tenth Session of the Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly — the Coastal Creek Protection Bill and the Agricultural Land Protection Bill.

According to a statement from the Aam Aadmi Party, both bills reflect the party’s focus on environmental integrity and the revival of Goa’s farming legacy.

The Coastal Creek Protection Bill aims to safeguard Goa’s neglected creeks, vital to irrigation, fisheries, and ecological health. The proposed law seeks to combat plastic pollution, curb encroachments, and penalise polluters, while empowering local communities to participate in creek conservation.

The Agricultural Land Protection Bill, aligned with the Goa Amrit Kaal Agricultural Policy, 2023, calls for redefining and expanding the scope of agriculture in the state. It promotes tech-based, sustainable farming models with the goal of bringing 75% of the population back to agriculture.

“Goa’s creeks are suffocating and farmlands vanishing, yet some politicians take credit for work they’ve never done,” said Viegas. “These bills are AAP’s sincere promise to stand by farmers and protect our environment with real solutions. I urge every MLA to support this vision for a sustainable Goa.”
