Media Release

Mangaluru, Jul 21: The audition round for the 61st edition of the Konkani Natak Sabha's (KNS) elders singing competition was held on Sunday, July 20, at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru. The event is part of the annual competitions organized by KNS.

The event began with the KNS anthem, followed by a warm welcome from Dr Rocky D'Cunha OFM Cap, president of KNS. He also delivered an encouraging message to the competitors, wishing them the best of luck. Santhosh Sequeira, a philanthropist and well-wisher of KNS, and Ivan Mascarenhas, who encourages participants from Bejai every year, were the chief guests for the event.

The competition was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony by KNS vice president Floyd D'Mello, general secretary Pamela Santos, assistant secretary Jerome Moras, and treasurer Ivan D'Silva, along with judges and competition convenors Joseph Theodore and Flavia Violet Mascarenhas.

Floyd D'Mello highlighted the contributions of KNS's mega sponsor, philanthropist Santhosh Sequeira of Kankanady, during the renovation of Don Bosco Hall. Santhosh sponsored the meeting hall in the name of Andrea Sequeira. He has been a strong pillar of support to KNS, especially in organizing various competitions over the years, including singing, dance, and fancy dress competitions. His generous sponsorship has been instrumental in the success of these events.

In his address, Santhosh Sequeira expressed his happiness in being part of KNS's cultural activities. He thanked Fr Rocky D'Cunha and all the office-bearers for their dedicated efforts in organizing the competitions and promoting Konkani art and culture. He also wished all the participants the very best for their performances and the upcoming rounds.

A total of 166 participants across eight categories, with 108 entries, showcased their talents in solo, duet, married couple, and group formats.

The event received valuable support from KNS manager Gerald Concessao. Tabulation was handled by former vice president Sunil Menezes. Overall coordination was managed by the KNS units of Cascia, Bejai, Urwa, Bondel, and Ladies units, along with the KNS managing committee members.

Renowned singers Meera Florence Crasta, Joshal D’Souza, Ashwin D’Costa, and Julian D'Cunha Derebail served as judges for the competition.
