New Delhi, Jul 21: In a significant and unexpected development, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice.

In a letter addressed to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar stated:

“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

As Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar also expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Murmu for her “unwavering support” and the “soothing, wonderful working relationship” they shared.

He also extended appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers, stating:

“The Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office.”

Dhankhar fondly acknowledged the warmth and trust extended to him by Members of Parliament, calling those memories “deeply cherished.”

Reflecting on his tenure, he said:

“It has been a privilege and satisfaction to witness and partake in India’s remarkable economic progress and unprecedented exponential development during this significant period.”

As he vacates the second-highest constitutional office, Dhankhar said he leaves “filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements” and retains “unwavering confidence in her brilliant future.”

Dear Abdul, VIDYANAGAR, KASARAGOD., If Shashi Tharoor is next PM candidate, I will vote for him. Do not waste his competence with VC, speaker and some such distraction. Shashi Tharoor should be the new benchmark for choosing PM worldwide, and not just in India.
