Kasargod, July 22: In a heart-wrenching incident near Chengala’s Fourth Mile, a 12-year-old boy died after a saree tied as a swing accidentally tightened around his neck while he was playing.
The deceased has been identified as Ummar Farooq, son of Mastan and Nasreena, originally from Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh. The family had been residing in rented quarters at Fourth Mile in Chengala.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Farooq, alone at home, tied a saree across the room and was playing on it like a swing. The saree reportedly tightened around his neck, leading to his untimely death. His two sisters were playing outside at the time, and both parents were away. The tragedy came to light when his mother returned home.
Vidyanagar police visited the spot and conducted an inspection. The family had moved to Kerala three years ago and shifted to Kasargod only six months ago.
