Noida, Jul 28: In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a man who was critically injured after a speeding BMW rammed into a scooter in Noida’s Sector 20 has succumbed to his injuries. The accident had earlier claimed the life of his five-year-old niece.

The tragic mishap took place on Saturday when Raja, his niece Ayaat, and her father Gul Mohammad were returning home after a hospital visit for Ayaat’s treatment. A Haryana-registered BMW crashed into their scooter, killing Ayaat on the spot and leaving Raja and Gul Mohammad severely injured.

Raja, who had suffered serious head injuries, slipped into a coma and was declared dead on Monday morning. Gul Mohammad, 45, continues to battle for life in a critical condition at a local hospital.

Police have arrested two youths — Yash Sharma (22), a resident of Sector 37, and Abhishek Rawat (22) from Sector 70 — in connection with the case. The duo has been charged with rash driving and causing death due to negligence.

Investigations revealed that the BMW, which Sharma had borrowed a week ago, was being driven back from a birthday party at the time of the crash. "They are undergoing medical examination to determine if they were under the influence of alcohol," a senior police officer stated.

The luxury vehicle has been seized as part of the ongoing probe.
