Mangaluru, July 31: Denis D'Silva, who has been actively involved in the organization of the Congress party in Dakshina Kannada District for the past 25 years, has been appointed as the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Campaign Committee of the district.
This appointment was made by Vinay Kumar Sorake, state president of the KPCC Campaign Committee and approved by AICC general secretary K C Venugopal. Denis has been directed to take charge of his responsibilities immediately. He has also been asked to start the process of appointing office bearers for the campaign committee at the district, constituency, block, and panchayat levels at the earliest.
Denis has served the party at various levels, including as Booth President, Ward Congress Committee President, General Secretary of the Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress Committee, Secretary of the Block Congress Committee, and State Coordinator of the KPCC Campaign Committee.
A district leader who has worked for the party from the booth level, Denis has enormous experience in handling various responsibilities especially during City Corporation, Assembly, and Lok Sabha elections for Congress party candidates. He is an excellent organizer and is also recognized for his programmes promoting social harmony, awareness campaigns, and cultural activities. Additionally, he has worked for the upliftment of the community as the president of the Mangalore Diocese and state president of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement. He has also organized many social activities and actively participated in disaster management relief operations.
Denis' political journey began in his school and college days when he joined the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress party. Mentored by senior Congress leaders of Dakshina Kannada district, including the late Krishnappa Mendon, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Oscar Fernandes, Janardhana Poojary, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Veerappa Moily, U T Khader, J R Lobo , etc., Denis' tireless efforts and organizational skills helped him gain recognition within the party at a young age. He worked diligently for the victory of Congress party candidates in City Corporation, Assembly, and other elections by conducting systematic election campaigns. By efficiently handling various responsibilities within the Congress party, he emerged as a promising political leader. Denis, recognized as an unparalleled organizer, has made immense contributions to the political, social, cultural, and educational fields.
He has been instrumental in undertaking several programmes to preserve and promote the heritage and distinct culture of the district. Denis has successfully planned and executed grand cultural programs for the Christian community, such as 'Sambram Sambram’ 'Sakkad Saangatha Melyam' and ‘Bapa Thanka Bogshi’ ‘Zashe Adim Tashe Atam’.
'Pepere Pepe Dum,' which had a grand culmination recently is his brainchild to preserve and promote the brass band tradition, which is a significant part of the Dakshina Kannada Christian community's heritage, thereby introducing coastal Christian culture to the entire state.
As a disciplined soldier of the Congress party this new responsibility is a recognition of the true potential of Denis D’Silva.
