Iran slams US sanctions, backs India in call for non-western world order

Daijiworld Media Network – Tehran

Tehran, Jul 31: Iran on Thursday lashed out at the United States, accusing it of weaponizing the global economy and using sanctions to control independent nations like Iran and India. The Iranian Embassy in India called these actions a form of ‘economic imperialism’ aimed at hindering national growth and sovereignty.

"The United States continues to weaponize the economy and use sanctions as tools to dictate its will on independent nations such as Iran and India and impede their growth and development," the Iranian Embassy posted on X, branding the US actions as a violation of international law.

Iran’s statement comes shortly after US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on India and penalties for purchasing Russian oil, effective August 1.

Backing the Global South, the Embassy added, “Resisting such policies is a stand for a more powerful emerging non Western-led multilateral world order.”

Simultaneously, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the latest US sanctions on its oil and energy sector, calling them “malicious” and aimed at crippling Iran’s economy and the welfare of its people.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei described the sanctions as "oppressive" and a "crime against humanity," stating that Washington's reliance on unilateral actions and coercive tools undermines international law, human rights, and global stability.

He warned that such actions threaten the global order, challenging state sovereignty and free trade.
