Udupi, Aug 1: The installation ceremony of the newly elected district governor of Lions International District 317C, Lion Sapna Suresh, along with her team, will be held on August 2 at the Times Square Mall auditorium in Kalsanka Udupi.
Popular Kannada film actor Vijay Raghavendra will inaugurate the event, informed Lion Sapna Suresh during a press conference held on July 31.
The focus for this year will be on the development and empowerment of backward communities, education, diabetes-related initiatives, and programmes that cater to the needs of youth. As part of the 'Neralu' project, 500 umbrellas worth Rs 5 lac will be distributed through various Lions Clubs in the district to benefit roadside vendors.


Under the clean drinking water project, water purification units will be installed in schools across the region at an estimated cost of Rs 34.5 lac, involving the participation of 115 Lions Clubs. Additionally, eye check-up camps, blood donation drives, cancer screening, and hunger alleviation programmes will be organized throughout the year.
Around 1,000 Lions members from Udupi, Davanagere, Shivamogga, and Chitradurga districts are expected to attend the grand installation event. Past International director of Lions Clubs International, Lion R Sampath, will officiate the installation ceremony.
Other dignitaries attending the event include past international director Lion V V Krishna Reddy, Lions Multiple Council chairperson Lion N Mohan Kumar, first vice district governor Lion Rajeev Kotian, second vice district governor Lion Hariprasad Rai, immediate past district governor Lion Mohammad Hanif, district cabinet treasurer Lion Shashidhar Shetty, Leo district president Leo Chirag Poojary, District installation Committee president Lion H Padmanabha Bhandary, secretary Lion Siddaraju, and treasurer Lion Radhakrishna Mendon.
Also present at the press conference were Lions district cabinet secretary Lion Shalini Bangera, treasurer Lion Shashidhar Shetty, and chairperson Lion Padmanabha Bhandary.
