Dublin, Aug 1: Amid growing concerns over attacks on Indian nationals in Ireland, the Indian Embassy in Dublin has raised the issue with Irish authorities, following a recent spate of violent incidents.

“There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently. The embassy is in touch with concerned authorities,” it said in an official statement.

Advising caution, the embassy urged Indian citizens to take necessary precautions, especially avoiding deserted areas during odd hours. Emergency contact details have also been made available for Indian nationals seeking assistance.

This comes after Dr Santosh Yadav, an Indian-origin entrepreneur, took to LinkedIn to describe an “unprovoked racist” attack by a group of teenagers near his Dublin residence.

“After dinner, I was walking near my apartment when six teenagers attacked me from behind. They broke my glasses and beat me across the head, face, chest, and legs. I was left bleeding on the pavement,” Yadav wrote, adding that his cheekbone was fractured and highlighting a rise in violence against minorities in the country.

In another disturbing incident, an Indian man was assaulted and stripped by a group in Dublin after being wrongly accused of inappropriate behaviour. Irish police later confirmed that there was no basis to the allegations.

The Indian embassy, tagging both Indian and Irish authorities, has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad while pressing for swift action and investigation into the attacks.
