Guwahati, Aug 3: In a shocking incident that has sparked outrage across Assam, two teenagers were violently assaulted by a mob in Golaghat district on suspicion of theft. The disturbing incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has drawn condemnation from state leaders and raised concerns over rising mob vigilantism.
The victims have been identified as Sayan Saikia (15) and Kantu Sahani (17). According to police sources, the brutal attack was allegedly led by three local brothers, who along with others, beat the boys with sticks and punched them repeatedly.

Both teenagers sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is said to be stable.
Responding to the incident, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma denounced the mob violence and assured that strong action would follow. “We will definitely do a thorough investigation, and the culprits will be punished,” the Chief Minister said.
Local MLA Biswajit Phukan also expressed his anguish over the incident. "I strongly condemn the attack that took place at Gelabil. The administration and the law will take appropriate steps to bring the perpetrators to justice," he stated.
A case has been registered, and police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused involved in the assault.
