Imphal, Aug 4: In a significant escalation of counterinsurgency operations, security forces in Manipur have arrested ten militants affiliated with banned insurgent groups over the past 24 hours. The arrests come amid a coordinated crackdown led by joint teams comprising the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, ITBP, and Manipur Police.
According to officials, the arrests took place across three districts — Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur — and the militants are linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
A cache of arms, including pistols, along with mobile phones, documents, and ammunition, was seized during the operation. Police sources confirmed that the apprehended individuals were involved in a string of violent activities such as kidnappings, extortion, targeted shootings, and collecting illegal funds from schools in the Imphal valley.
The state continues to be on high alert as search operations are being conducted both in the valley and hilly terrains. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling militant networks and recovering stolen weapons.
In an effort to curb misinformation, Manipur Police issued a stern warning against the spread of fake news and doctored videos on social media. Citizens have been urged to verify any suspicious digital content through the Central Control Room. Legal action, the police emphasized, will be taken against those found circulating false or provocative content.
The police have also appealed to the public to return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest security post without delay.
As part of broader efforts to reinforce law enforcement infrastructure, the Manipur government announced the establishment of a new police station in Imphal and the creation of 12 Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) positions across nine districts. This move is aimed at enhancing investigative oversight and improving law and order management across the state.
A senior officer at police headquarters stated that the decision is a strategic step to address both operational needs and administrative expansion in newly formed districts.
