Daijiworld Media Network - Bihar

Bihar, Aug 6: Shubham Kumar, a native of Jehanabad, Bihar, topped the 2020 UPSC Civil Services Examination — a feat that made headlines across the country and inspired thousands of aspirants, particularly from underserved regions.

Coming from a humble background — with a government employee father and homemaker mother — Shubham grew up with limited access to academic resources but was always driven by a deep desire to learn. After excelling at his local government school, he went on to study civil engineering at IIT Bombay, where his exposure to broader social issues motivated him to pursue civil services.

Determined to contribute meaningfully to society, Shubham began his UPSC journey after graduation. Despite facing setbacks and failing in his early attempts, he remained resolute. His success came in his third attempt, thanks to a disciplined routine, strong conceptual understanding, peer support, and consistent revision. He also focused on mental well-being, using exercise and yoga to manage stress.

Today, Shubham not only serves in the civil services but also shares his journey to encourage others. His story is a powerful reminder that with focus, grit, and perseverance, even the most ambitious dreams can be realized — no matter where you come from.
