Interim bail granted to accused in Dharmasthala assault case on YouTubers

Beltangady, Aug 10: Six persons arrested in connection with the assault on four YouTubers at Pangal Cross in Dharmasthala village on August 6 have been granted interim bail.

The arrested accused — Padmaprasad, Suhas, Guruprasad, Shashikumar, Kalandar, and Chetan, all residents of Dharmasthala — were taken into custody by Dharmasthala police on August 9. They were produced before the residence of the Beltangady judge on August 9 evening, who granted them interim bail.

The judge has directed all six accused to appear before the Beltangady court on August 11.

According to police, the incident occurred when two groups allegedly gathered unlawfully and created a disturbance. Based on a suo motu complaint filed by Dharmasthala sub-inspector Samarth R Ganiger, a case was registered at the Dharmasthala police station on the night of August 6 against 27 individuals and others in connection with the incident.
