The event was presided over by Dr Pravin Martis SJ, vice chancellor of St Aloysius Deemed University and president of the ceremony. In his address, he emphasised the Jesuit motto, “Men and Women with and for others” and urged engineering graduates to develop not only technical expertise but also a compassionate heart for society.

Highlighting the pressing challenge of waste management in Mangaluru, he called upon students to devise innovative solutions. “While Mangaluru is today rated as the safest city in the country, we must also work towards making it the cleanest,” he remarked.

Stressing the role of innovation for societal benefit, he remarked, “Communication is the key. Engineers should master the art of storytelling, which in turn enables story-selling.”

Dr Geetha Pinto, coordinator of the SDG Club, outlined the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and inspired students to actively contribute towards these global objectives. “Each student has the potential to make a difference—what matters is participation and commitment,” she said.
