CDC shooter blamed COVID-19 vaccine; officer killed in Atlanta attack

Atlanta, Aug 11: Patrick White, the suspected gunman who opened fire near the CDC headquarters on August 8, reportedly blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for his illness and depression, sources close to the investigation said. The attack left DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose dead and shattered windows at the sprawling CDC campus.

Officials caution that the probe is ongoing, but White, 30, was believed to have struggled with mental health issues and became fixated on the vaccine as the cause of his ailments. Neighbors described him expressing conspiracy-driven anger, claiming the vaccine caused weight loss, swallowing difficulties, and gastrointestinal problems.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation but has not confirmed a motive. CDC leadership described the incident as a “targeted attack on CDC related to COVID” in an internal letter urging staff to work remotely amid ongoing security monitoring.

Experts reiterate that COVID-19 vaccines, including mRNA shots, have been extensively studied and are safe and effective, with serious long-term side effects being extremely rare.

Officer Rose was pronounced dead after responding to the shooting, while four others sought medical help for stress and anxiety.
