Moving lorry rams into broken-down vehicle on Kalladka flyover, driver injured

Bantwal, Aug 14: A serious accident occurred on Wednesday morning on the recently opened Kalladka flyover — part of the BC Road–Addahole National Highway stretch — when a moving lorry collided with a stationary vehicle that had broken down on the flyover.

The injured driver, identified as Khaleel from Uppinangady, was rushed to Thumbe Hospital for treatment. Police said a freezer lorry belonging to an ice-cream company was on its way from Bengaluru to Mangaluru when it crashed into the stationary lorry from behind. The force of the impact damaged both vehicles.

Sources revealed that the stationary lorry had been left on the flyover for the past three days. Even though the flyover has been opened to traffic, streetlight installation work is still in progress. Locals have criticised what they termed 'negligent parking' of the broken-down lorry without proper warning signs, posing a risk to motorists.

Bantwal traffic police visited the spot and carried out an inspection.
