Bangalore: Government Wants to Ban 'Made Snana' - V S Acharya

Bangalore, Feb 3 (PTI): Karnataka Government is moving in the direction of banning the "made snana",a ritual of rolling by lower caste people on plantain leaves left by Brahmins after partaking lunch in some temples,Minister for Religious Endowments V S Acharya told the state assembly.

"The issues pertain to a belief of people. It is being practised for more than 500 years. It cannot be banned forcibly. We have to educate people. The government is moving in this direction to ban the practice", Acharya said when opposition Congress sought a ban on the practice.

Acharya said  three types of 'made snana' are being practised in the state and added "this year also the government made efforts to ban it in Kukke Subramanya temple in Dakshina Kannada district, but was forced to allow it in the wake of protests against the ban."

Hitting back at Congress Deputy Leader T B Jayachandra, who criticised the BJP government's failure to end the "obnoxious" practice,Acharya said "the country got independence 64 years ago.Congress ruled the state for about 60 years. Why Congress governments did not think of banning the practice?

'Made Snana' is an annual ritual held in Kukke Subramanya temple and at another temple in Pavagada taluk of Tumkur district.

The House later passed The Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2011 which seeks to remove certain difficulties faced in implementing the provisions of the Act enacted in 1997 and to omit certain overlapping provisions in the act.

The JD(S) staged a dharna for a brief while and later walked out after the Speaker rejected its demand for deferring the passage of the bill to February six as its members wanted to offer their suggestions.

Govt cannot stop Made snana, until there are higher n lower class Hindus. This bill will not be approved. It's against basics of Hinduism. Last time one leader was beaten for trying to stop this culture. Congress understand the feeling of Hindu people where as BJP doesn't have any culture. It's none of their business to interfere in the religious tradion of Hindus. It's centuries old culture. It's done to get rid of some deceases. Even Brahmins do Made snana. Acharya too must do it. Some Pseudo's who supported Made Snana before, changing their tunes in support of banning it.

Respected V S Acharyaji, why you want to involve in rituals of majority people? “Made Made Snana” does not harm anyone and there is no cruelty involved too. People come over there by their own choice and perform the rituals. If you think this a dirty practice then better your government educates those people to stop this practice by their own but surely not by force. If our Government wants to stop this practice, then same people will ask for something else to be stopped too where there is a more human or animal cruelty involved. Try to respect the beliefs of common people one which they followed for several generations with certain & genuine reasons

Earlier people had less education and believed blindly whatever the wise told them to do like patients doing what the doctors say to cure their disease. Now it is found unhealthy practice and needs to be banned under government supervision since people may not accept the reformation as it is like wise other damned practises too need to be eliminated to hold our head high before the changing society.

The logic of those people who are
indirectly supporting this degrading tradition might not have
yet caught the trick behind it.

Do you like anybody spitting on your face or body, which is an
highly humiliating experience of life? Why the Brahmins didn't share a portion of the fresh food
for the people to roll over, to
get divine healing in their skin
    problems?

When we eat food, especially the
Indian food, there will be waste
    soacked in human saliva. Those
    people started this show enjoyed
    the gullible people rolling over
    their food waste with saliva.
Let there be a national poll to
make the correct decision by the
government, whether to ban this or
not! If Sati is openly permitted,
there are some blind believers who are ready to do the same thing, and
    some people may sacrifice their
own children due to the influence
    religion.

I fully agree with following statement of Mr. acharya.
"The country got independence 64 years ago.Congress ruled the state for about 60 years. Why Congress governments did not think of banning the practice."

There cannot be two different yardsticks for two rival parties.

Dear VS Acharya, how come you expect congress to do it in last 60 years. Do you agree if they propose the bill to ban the activity?.You should know that 50% of the voters in 2013 are educated youngsters and they are not fools. You bring the ban and then ask the DC to stop the Ban and then ask the police to allow it.While people protest then you send goons to beat them up.This is what you did in 2011. You should start with basic primary rules that will start likethis .1 sit together and have lunch with low caste 2.allow all the caste to enter the temple and then 3. Explain the people that this ‘made snana’ was created to keep the low caste away from the high class while lunch and rituals in the temples.4. so the people will realize and stop ‘made snana ‘ by themselves and you no need to ban it and waste money on the government machinery to implement the ban.

Mr. Acharya was defending the Made Snana, saying it is the age old belief of people, sentiments of people will be hurt, no body is forced to do it, and finally it cures the skin decease etc,. How come his logic has changed now?

'Half of the lected represantatives 'doze' in the Assembly Hall, taking turns, and the other half supposedly 'active' debate on
issues like 'Made Snana' and the
like! Our whole system needs 'cleansing' through a 'Snana' very innovative and refreshing!

    Dear Acharya,

You have given a wonderful reply to the dirty congress rogues.

Yes, the country got independence 64 years ago. Congress ruled the state for about 60 years. But Congress governments did not think of banning the practice.

Did congress realize MADE-SNANA is bad ritual only after BJP came into power? This shows cheap mentality and bad attitude of congress. They should be thrown to Arabian sea at Ullal beach, useless fellows..

Why cant they stop their community people participate in the said ritual. Why do you want a ban?Whether things are not in your control?if not dissolve the organisations.
