Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 14: On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day 2025, Milagres College of Nursing, in collaboration with Milagres Degree College, organized a meaningful and impactful event to celebrate life, honor the selfless act of organ donation, and raise awareness about its life-saving significance on August 14.

The theme was “Answering the Call”.

The ceremony began with a solemn prayer, seeking divine blessings, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dion, who greeted the gathering with heartfelt words. Dignitaries then participated in the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing the light of knowledge, awareness, and health.

A significant moment of the event was the unveiling of the official theme, “Answering the Call,” by Lisha. The theme served as a powerful reminder of the individual and collective responsibility to support organ donation.

Dr Diana Lobo, principal of Milagres College of Nursing, delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing the transformative power of organ donation and the vital role healthcare professionals and students play in championing this noble cause.

Adding emotional depth to the program, a musical performance based on themes of life and hope resonated deeply with the audience, reinforcing the message of the day.

The highlight of the event was an engaging and informative keynote address by Padmavathi, transplant coordinator at Jeevasarthakathe, Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru. To promote accessibility and action, a QR code linking directly to the official Jeevasarthakathe organ donor registration portal was displayed during the session, encouraging participants to scan, learn more, and pledge to become organ donors.

The presidential address was delivered by the correspondent, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, while Dr Alwyn Serrao, campus director and principal of Milagres Degree College, highlighted organ donation as a life-saving act that offers recipients a second chance at life and reflects the values of compassion and generosity.

A total of 250 first-year BSc Nursing and degree college students actively participated in the event. The program was efficiently compared by Rakshitha, a BSc Nursing student.
