Karkala: Myriad Handicrafts Attract Visitors at 'Mahamastakabhisheka'

Karkala, Feb 4: Stalls selling various attractive items are the major draw at Venoor, near here, where the ‘Mahamastakabhisheka’ of Bhagwan Bahubali’s monolithic statue has been under way since a week. 

Stalls selling saris, decorative items, toys by self-help-groups, and others were patronized by children and parents alike while the stalls with rural industrial products, farming accessories, household appliances were patronized by men folk.

Nearly 76 stalls selling products ranging from daily necessities, readymade garments, and books was the major attraction at the Mahamastakabhishekaa.

The replica of a forest set up by the concerned department was successful in creating general awareness on afforestation laid emphasis on the environmental destruction caused by mining industries.  It was a unique experience to witness the chirping of birds in a cave set up in the fake forest.

Various handicrafts made out of the roots of cardamom plant, which are environment-friendly and have medicinal qualities were sold to a majority of customers.

Visitors, especially women, were found buying these items as well as vanity bags, mats, pillows, quilts, mattresses, purses, clips, decorative boxes, key chains, footwear, pen stands, toys, and gift items.

“We saw good response from customers for our various handicrafts made from the roots of the cardamom plant,” said the owner of Bhatkal-based Ushira Industries which also had a stall.
