Goa collector to hear case of tourist assaulting lifeguard

Panaji, Aug 17: Reports of the assault on Drishti Marine lifeguard Laxmikant Gaude at Betalbatim beach have reached the South Goa Collector, who is expected to hear both parties on Monday.

The incident occurred on Thursday when a middle-aged tourist slapped Gaude and pushed him into the water after being stopped from entering the sea. Although Gaude chose not to press charges, Drishti Marine has demanded punitive action against the tourist.

“No FIR has been registered, but Drishti has filed a complaint under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which deals with disturbance of public peace,” said an official.

The collector is likely to record statements from Drishti Marine, Gaude, and the tourist before passing an order. Police officials confirmed that both parties were earlier called to the station, where the matter was informally settled.
