Puttur, Aug 17: In a major breakthrough, the Bellare police have arrested an accused in a long-pending theft case, who had been absconding for over five years. The arrest was made in Kerala, following a persistent manhunt.

The accused, identified as Unmesh, had been wanted in connection with Crime No. 56/2020 registered at the Bellare police station under Sections 457, 380 r/w 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) – relating to housebreaking and theft.

Despite repeated court summons, Unmesh had failed to appear before the court, leading to the issuance of a non-bailable warrant against him. Acting on credible intelligence, Bellare police successfully traced him to Kerala, where he was taken into custody.

He was produced before the court on August 17, following which the court has remanded him to judicial custody.

The arrest marks a significant success for the local police in cracking down on old pending criminal cases and bringing absconders to justice.
