Bihar: Mobile theft accused tied to tree, thrashed by villagers in Bhagalpur

Bhagalpur, Aug 17: Tension prevailed in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district after a youth accused of mobile theft was tied to a tree and beaten by angry villagers, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the boy allegedly entered a house secretly. On being spotted, he attempted to flee but was chased and caught by locals.

A video of the incident, which has gone viral, shows the youth tied to a large tree with ropes, pleading for mercy as villagers shout at him.

Police identified the accused as a resident of Puraini village. Villagers claimed that theft incidents in the area had been on the rise, which had made them extra vigilant.

The boy was later rescued by Jagdishpur police and taken into custody. An investigation is underway.
