Bamunigaon, Aug 18: A morning walk ended in tragedy for three women near Bamunigaon Railway Station when they were struck by a Guwahati-bound train. The victims, identified as Rumi Das (55), Korabi Malu (60), and Uttara Das (60), were crossing railway tracks at around 5:25 am.

According to Northeast Frontier Railway officials, the women initially switched tracks after hearing the horn of a passing NMG goods train but were hit by the Puri Express, which locals claim did not blow its horn due to its electric engine running at full speed.

The victims hailed from Boko village, located about 300 meters from the railway tracks. Boko Police have launched an inquiry into the accident, and railway authorities have urged the public to cross tracks only at authorised locations to prevent further incidents.

Locals have highlighted the dangers of the section, noting that at least 20 people have lost their lives to train accidents in the past two decades. Authorities are expected to review safety measures in the area.
