Ghaziabad woman sub-inspector dies in accident while saving stray dog

Ghaziabad, Aug 19: In a tragic incident, a 25-year-old woman sub-inspector lost her life after being run over by a car while trying to save a stray dog in Ghaziabad on Monday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Richa Sachan, was returning home from duty at Kavi Nagar police station around 2 pm when her motorcycle struck a stray dog. She lost balance and fell on the road, only to be mowed down by a car coming from behind.

“Despite wearing a helmet, she sustained severe injuries. She was rushed to Sarvodaya Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead,” said Additional Commissioner of Police, Kavi Nagar, Bhaskar Verma.

Richa, a native of Kanpur, was recruited as a sub-inspector in 2023. She was in charge of the Shastri Nagar outpost and was also preparing for UPSC examinations. Her parents revealed that they had been planning her wedding for next year.

A guard of honour was accorded to the young officer at Ghaziabad police lines. Her post-mortem was conducted before her body was handed over to her family, who have taken it to Kanpur for cremation.
