New Delhi, Aug 21: The ministry of road transport and highways on Thursday, confirmed that two-wheelers are exempt from paying toll fees on all national highways and expressways across the country.
The clarification follows rumours on social media suggesting that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) planned to levy charges on two-wheelers. Officials reaffirmed that toll is applicable only to four-wheeled and larger vehicles, as per the National Highway Fee Rules, 2008, and there is no proposal to extend this to motorcycles or scooters.

Meanwhile, NHAI reported selling over five lac FASTag-based annual toll permits within four days, generating Rs 150 crore in revenue. Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Haryana recorded the highest number of annual pass purchases.
