Mangaluru, Aug 21: Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has unequivocally ruled out permission for DJs at public gatherings, stating that the law on DJ usage is clear and non-negotiable.

The statement comes in response to demands from the Dakshina Kannada District Sound System and Decoration Owners’ Association, which sought permission to deploy sound systems based on crowd size, venue, and the nature of events.

Commissioner Reddy firmly stated, “The law is clear. Therefore, DJs will not be permitted at any public functions.” The association had recently threatened a boycott, warning that they would withhold sound systems from public programmes if their request was not granted.

Reacting to the threat, the commissioner said, “I remain unfazed by any decision to boycott. These are their own tools and choices.”

He assured that arrangements would be made to ensure celebrations proceed smoothly without causing inconvenience to the public, senior citizens, or students.

“Existing regulations are in place, and while some exemptions may be granted for valid reasons, these will not set precedents or become new rules,” he clarified.
