Ranchi, Aug 23: Ranchi police have arrested Geeta Devi and her partner Irfan Ansari for the murder of Geeta’s husband, Lumba Oraon, on August 21 in Pithoria, police officials confirmed.

According to the investigation, Geeta had been in an extramarital relationship with Irfan for the past eight years, which Oraon opposed. The couple allegedly plotted the murder by spiking Oraon’s milk-based drink with intoxicating medicine and lacing alcohol with 10-15 sleeping pills.

On August 20, Oraon was taken by Irfan to Kanke Agriculture Gate, where he was made to consume alcohol and the drugged drink, rendering him unconscious. He was later strangled inside a car and his body was disposed of on the Mauvanajara-Simalbeda road.

Police revealed that Geeta had been staying with Irfan for the last one and a half years and had installed a CCTV camera in her husband’s house through which Irfan monitored Oraon’s activities.

Authorities have seized a car, a motorcycle, the couple’s mobile phones and SIM cards, as well as the alcohol bottle, milk-based drinks, and an empty packet of sleeping pills. Further investigation is ongoing.
