New York, Aug 24: In a shocking claim, a Manhattan woman has alleged that she discovered a human fingertip in her chicken wrap order at a restaurant in Astoria, Queens.
The woman, identified as 43-year-old Mary Elizabeth Smith, said she was “permanently traumatised” after biting into the wrap from Create Astoria, a Mediterranean eatery she frequented. Her lawyer, Robert Menna, said she immediately spat it out after realising something was wrong. “It was horrifying for her,” he told New York Post.
According to her lawsuit, the severed fingertip — including a nail — was tested in a lab and confirmed to be from a human female. Following the incident, Smith underwent intensive antiretroviral therapy to prevent potential infections.
“This has left me very cautious about food. It took me a long time to eat chicken again,” Smith said.
Restaurant owner Teddy Karagiannis dismissed the allegations as “preposterous and fraudulent,” insisting no female employees were working that day. “She doesn’t want DNA testing, which would prove it didn’t come from my staff. You’d have a better chance of hitting the lotto twice in one day,” he said, adding that he plans to countersue over the “appalling” claims.
