Mangaluru, Aug 24: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru, in association with Ashoknagar Yuvaka Sangha, organised a charitable distribution programme at Ashoknagar Senior Primary School auditorium on Sunday, August 24.

On the occasion, school uniforms, clothes for senior citizens, medical care, bicycles, and sewing machines were distributed to the needy. The contribution was made by philanthropist Joseph Mathias in memory of his late parents, Lawrence and Mary Mathias.

The programme was presided over by Norbert Mathias, brother of Joseph Mathias. Janet Matias was the guest of honour. The event was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp in the presence of Ullas K J, district youth officer; Jagadeesh, chief co-ordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra; Joseph Lobo, honorary president, AYS; B Padmanabha Amin, former corporator; and Jayaram, president, AYS.

Speaking on behalf of Joseph Mathias, Norbert Mathias said, “Our family has been collaborating with many organisations for charitable activities. Our parents taught us to stand with those in poverty and hardship. Having experienced financial struggles ourselves, we understand the value of helping others. This is a golden opportunity for beneficiaries to overcome their challenges. Especially students must take their difficulties as a stepping stone and, one day, become donors themselves. We are happy to associate with Ashoknagar Yuvaka Sangha, which has been actively involved in social service for the past 66 years.”

Addressing the gathering, Ullas K J appreciated the charitable initiatives of Joseph Mathias and his family and lauded the long-standing service of Ashoknagar Yuvaka Sangha.

B Shrinivas welcomed the dignitaries and gathering, while Vasu Sherigar compered the programme.

Anjali Fernandes, Christopher Henry, Prabhakar and many others were present on the occasion.
