Mangaluru: Installation of Student Council 2025-26 held at The Yenepoya Institute

Mangaluru, Aug 25: The installation ceremony of the Student Council 2025-26 at The Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management (YIASCM), was held on Saturday, August 23 in the YMK auditorium, Kulur campus. The event marked a significant milestone in the academic calendar, celebrating leadership, achievement, and community service.

The dignitaries present on the dais were chief guest Reshel Bretny Fernandes, young author and orator, Kittur Rani Chennamma State Awardee; guest of honour Dr Mohammed Gulzar, principal, Yenepoya Pharmacy College; Prof Jeevan Raj, principal (I/C), YIASCM; Prof Shareena P, vice principal and dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, YIASCM; Narayana Sukumar A, vice principal, YIASCM; president Fahaz Ahmed, III BBA (LSCM) and general secretary Kathijathul Almas, III BSc (FS).

To embrace God’s presence on this auspicious occasion, a prayer song was recited by Ahmed Saleeth, II BA (Communication Design). The ceremony was inaugurated by the lighting the lamp by the dignitaries.

Chief guest Reshel Bretny Fernandes, in her address, extended her warm wishes to the newly nominated Student Council members and reminded them of the significance of their role as leaders. She encouraged them to view this opportunity not as a means for personal gain, but as an opportunity to serve others with sincerity and dedication. With the reputation of the institution resting on their shoulders, she urged them to ensure that their actions and conduct always uphold the name and fame of the institution.

She inspired the students to see each day as a fresh opportunity to grow, learn, and contribute meaningfully by making the best use of their talents. Emphasising unity and integrity, as the foundations of effective leadership, she highlighted the importance of teamwork, self-motivation, and building a strong rapport with their peers. She also spoke about the many qualities that define a true leader, reminding them that “what we believe is what we put forth.” Concluding her address, she advised the students to accept both success and failure with balance and grace, as each is an essential part of the journey of leadership.

Dr Mohammed Gulzar, in his address, emphasised that their new role is a celebration of trust, responsibility, and potential, he urged them to cultivate humility, refine their attitude, and take full ownership of their duties through commitment and teamwork. He called upon them to work towards creating a campus free from drugs and ragging, thereby fostering an environment that is safe, supportive, and memorable for every student. Encouraging them to seize this opportunity, he inspired them to make a real difference by ensuring that every voice is heard and every student benefits from their leadership.

In his presidential address, Prof Jeevan Raj, highlighted the importance of leadership, dedication, and the pivotal role of the Student Council in shaping the future of the institution. He urged the members to carry out their responsibilities with sincerity and commitment, reminding them that true leadership is rooted in service and guided by integrity. He encouraged them to remain service-minded, uphold values, and set an example for their peers through their actions.

Prof Shareena P, in her address, emphasised that the Student Council members are the true change makers and role models of both the institution and society. She highlighted their crucial responsibility to lead and transform fellow students for their betterment. She also spoke about the distinct qualities they embody—loyalty, enthusiasm, alertness, energy, discipline, sincerity, reliability, humour, and patience. As representatives, they bridge the gap between administrators, faculty, and students, thereby fostering harmony and progress within the institution. She further encouraged the students to believe in these leaders, to approach them freely, and to express their needs, reminding all that these leaders are of the students and for the students.

The principal of the institution then administered the oath to the 59 Student Council members, who were presented with badges symbolising their roles and responsibilities. Students with outstanding performances were also felicitated by the dignitaries during the ceremony. Fahaz Ahmed, president of the Student Council, shared his vision for the journey ahead.

Dr Deekshitha Prashanth, assistant professor, Department of Humanities and Social Science welcomed the dignitaries. The event was compered by Greeshma Poojary, lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Dr Shakira Irfana, associate professor, Department of Management, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of the event.

Heads of departments, faculty members, and students graced the programme. The inaugural ceremony ended with the National Anthem.
