Mangaluru, Aug 25: An Environment Day – Laudato Si and cleanliness drive was organized on August 24 morning in the old church premises of Our Lady of Mercy, Paneer. The programme was jointly organized by the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh (R) Environment Commission and the Agriculture Committee.
Under the leadership of Fr Victor D’Mello, the celebration began with a Vanamahotsava (tree-planting) initiative. The parish priest invoked God’s blessings and distributed fruit and sapling plants while conveying the message of environmental care. Alvin D’Souza, former central president of Catholic Sabha and president of the Christian Federation, highlighted the importance of planting and nurturing trees.















The Vanamahotsava was inaugurated by Fr Victor D’Mello by planting a sapling. Vice president Sarita D’Souza, secretary Gretta D’Cunha, 21 commissions coordinator Ronald D’Souza, Christian Federation president and former central president of Catholic Sabha Alvin D’Souza, Catholic Sabha Paneer Unit president Ivan Montero, immediate past president Noel Pinto, Secretary Violet D’Souza, Environment Commission convener Norbert D’Souza, Agriculture Committee convener Urban Ferrao, SVP president Franky Cutinha, along with about 150 members, actively participated in the programme.
