Udupi, Feb 5: The district-level Vishwakarma Sammelana, organized by Vishwakarma Okkoota to mark their silver jubilee, was inaugurated by chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda here on Sunday February 5.

Sadananda Gowda in his inaugural address said that Vishwakarma community has grown in leaps and bounds owing to the active participation of the community brethren. "The diversity and unity among people of different faiths, castes and creeds can only be found in our country. Its culture has survived since centuries despite the onslaught of rulers and present-day globalisation," he said.

DVS called upon on the community to cast aside its inferiority complex that has hindered its prosperity. He also assured that the state government will grant certain benefits for the welfare and development of the Vishwakarma community.

'Rajatodbhava CM', a silver plaque with the image of Sadananda Gowda's face etched on it, was presented to the CM on the occasion.

Swami Kalahastendra Saraswati of Anegundi Mutt, Katpady and Swami Gurushiva Sujnanamurti of Aremadanahalli Mutt, Hassan graced the occasion.

Dakshina Kannada district incharge minister Krishna J Palemar, state minister of labour and silk B N Bacche Gowda, BJP state president K S Eshwarappa, Congress state president Dr G Parameshwar, Shimoga MP B Y Raghavendra, MLA Raghupati Bhat, town councilor Kiran Kumar, entrepreneur Pramod Madhwaraj, Dakshina Kannada Vishwa Brahmana Sabha, Bangalore president Vittal Belandoor, Karnataka Vishwakarma Association, Mumbai president Nitte Damodar Acharya, Dakshina Kannada Vishwakarma Sabha, Coimbattore honorary president P L Shubhakar Acharya, Vishwakarma Okkota president Alevoor Yogish Acharya and others were present.

The veterans of the community presented a memorandum to Sadananda Gowda, seeking state benefits during the programme.

Vishwakarma Okkoota vice-president Sitaram Acharya welcomed the gathering. Padubidri Dinesh Acharya proposed vote of thanks. Ramesh Acharya and Suresh Acharya compered the programme.

Congratulations to all those who participated and organized the event.
It is a timely organized event. Where the whole history of India and its heritage is narrated with rich culture citing the paintings and sculptures of Ajantha, Yellora, Belur, Halebeedu and most of the temples in India, too little is said about Vishwakarmas and their work. The community that involved in nation building has been neglected in the past and present. It is an eye opener event for the Government to recognize, support and develop the community in future.
The only solution for uplifting minority communities is to involve them in state and national level politics. Members from Vishwakarma communities should be considered and involved in political activities and should be given leadership. The minority population should not be the reason to neglect the community. In elections only candidates from communities of higher populations are considered neglecting the minority. If it is a set back for most of the political parties to give ticket to minor communities as there are more chances of losing seats, The Government should consider bringing minority community members at least through Legislative councils and upper houses.
The people who involved themselves in the nation building right from century old civilizations should have prominence in the present political system.
Hope Vishwakarma community will flourish and prosper in future to a majority community.
    Bharath Matha Ki Jai….

It is indeed very nice to see a small community like Vishwakarmans organizing such a mega event in the august presence of none other than the Chief Minister of Karnataka. It's a reflection of the current mood and flow where the minorities have a major say and rightfully so they have been asserting themselves where it matters. So, hats off to the organizers in managing almost a coup to draw the attention of the highest authority of the state to the state of affairs of this benign community. Hope their faith and aspirations will get a patient hearing and the community progresses to its potential of being the famed 'architect' of the entire state, nay the nation. Three Cheers to Vishwakarma Okkuta and for the continued grand success of the community as whole. God Bless

it is good that some awareness about the community if made known to other community also. i would suggest that we should mention and represent as VISHWAKARMA BRAHMIN or VISHSHWA BRAHMIN community rather just mensioning only VISHWAKARMA community. Many other communinities do not know or recognise US as we belong to BRAHMNA verga in the versnashrama system.
