Jodhpur, Aug 25: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the citizens living in India’s border regions for their “full support” during Operation Sindoor, declaring it a shining example of how national security is a collective responsibility, not just the duty of the military or government. Speaking at the inauguration of the Defence and Sports Academy in Jodhpur, Singh underlined the critical role of civilian solidarity in strengthening the country’s defence posture.
Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack where Pakistan-backed militants murdered 26 unarmed tourists after confirming their religion, was a defining moment, Singh said. The Indian armed forces responded swiftly, dismantling nine major terror camps and eliminating over 100 militants. Singh hailed the operation as emblematic of a “New India”—decisive, fearless, and just.
He also condemned the communal targeting by terrorists, contrasting it with the Indian armed forces’ impartial and justice-driven approach. “While terrorists acted on dharma, we acted on karma. That is the difference between them and us,” he said.
Emphasising the significance of citizen involvement in national defence, Singh added, “The people in the border areas stood shoulder to shoulder with our soldiers. This proves that the safety of our nation is everyone’s responsibility.”
He also commended the spirit and discipline shown by India’s youth during the operation and highlighted the importance of institutions like the newly inaugurated Defence and Sports Academy. He described the convergence of defence, education, and sports as foundational to building a resilient and prosperous nation. “Qualities such as patience, perseverance, and discipline are just as vital for a soldier as they are for a sportsperson,” he noted.
Singh, while lauding Rajasthan’s long-standing contribution to India’s defence forces, observed that the region, despite producing many jawans, has been underrepresented in officer ranks. He urged the youth of Rajasthan to aspire for leadership roles in the armed forces and contribute more significantly to national security.
Encouraging citizens to build a nation that leads globally in knowledge, culture, and strength, Singh concluded by reiterating the importance of youth awareness and active participation in shaping India’s future.
