Moodbidri: Teams Battle for 'Western Cup' Inter-state Volleyball Trophy

Moodbidri, Feb 5: Western Institute of Technology organised an inter-state floodlight volleyball tournament 'Western Cup 2012' at Sri Mahaveera College ground here on Saturday February 4.

It was a tournament of great quality and excellence, with top players and top volleyball teams of the country exhibiting their skills. The tournament was inaugurated at 7:30 pm by K Abhayachandra Jain, MLA of Mulki and Moodbidri. The tournament ended Sunday February 5 at 9 am.

'Western Cup 2012' was won by the team Shirdi Sai Aluminium, owned by Sri Amruth, Kadri. The winners carried home a magnificent trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 .

Padmashree Agencies owned by Abhijit M, Moodbidri bagged the runner-up spot. The team won a lovely trophy and a cash prize of Rs 30,000.

The third place was shared between two teams, Pattadi Sanitary owned by Ibrahim Pattadi, and U-Drive owned by Alwyn D'Souza. They were awarded with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 15,000 each.

The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony were held at 9:30 am. The prizes were distributed by Abhayachandra Jain and Prof H Chandrashekar Dixit, principal of Sri Mahaveera College. Walter Stephan Mendes, president of Western institute of technology welcomed the gathering and Florence Mendes proposed the vote of thanks.

A record number of spectators gathered at the venue to watch the action-packed matches. The crowd was entertained with some lovely dance performances by Sizzling Guys dance academy from Mangalore.
