Shahjahanpur, Aug 27: A debt-ridden couple in Shahjahanpur allegedly poisoned their four-month-old son before ending their lives by suicide, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Sachin Grover (30), a handloom businessman, his wife Shivani (28), and their infant son Fateh. Their bodies were found by relatives in separate rooms of their second-floor residence on Wednesday morning.

Police recovered a suicide note in which Sachin stated that he was unable to bear the mounting debt and lack of income. “I have no complaints with my family; they all supported me. Please sell our car and house to settle the debt so that no one can say our debt remained unpaid,” the note read.

According to police, the couple allegedly poisoned their son before hanging themselves from ceiling fans on Tuesday night. The child’s body was found in another room.

Relatives living on the ground floor discovered the bodies and informed the police. Sachin’s mother told police that on Tuesday evening, her son had expressed worry about depositing Rs 5 lakh in the bank, of which he had managed to arrange only Rs 3 lakh.

Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
